The University of Virginia Campus Illustrated Map is a hand drawn and digitally colored illustrated map. UVA is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States. It was conceived and designed by President Thomas Jefferson and established in 1819.
The Rotunda and The Lawn, presented at the illustrated map, serve as the historic beginnings of the University. Its architectural heritages are internationally regarded, and is one of only 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites located in North America.
This custom illustrated map serves as the primary illustration used on the University’s very popular map and visitor’s guide. Since UVA is so well known for its architecture, the map illustrator had to carefully execute both a navigable map as well as a realistic rendering of the architecture of the University. Since this illustrated map is digital, as new buildings are constructed, they can be added to the illustration – keeping the map and guide up to day for years to come.
